This well-built 3-piece boombox was part of Marantz's "Gold Series". Its faceplate is as thick as the ones on home stereos!

Marantz PMS-3500

The PMS-3500 is a small 3-piece boombox that was sold by Marantz in 1981. It has a unique "gold" finish. It's 22" across, 9.25" high, and 6.5" deep. It has 2.5 ohm speakers with 12cm woofers and 4cm tweeters. On the back, it's got inputs for Phono and Aux, as well as Line Out. The amplifier is a Sanyo LA4125 chip, which is rated for 2.4 watts per channel when using a 9 volt power supply and 4 ohm speakers. But the speakers on this model are only 2.5 ohms, so the output will be a bit higher.

The entire front face is constructed of a very thick aluminum faceplate, anodized gold. It can be easily removed for cleaning. Inside, the build quality is nice, with a metal tape well and a metal tuner dial. And the controls are mounted on metal crossmembers.

Note: There's another version of this boombox called the Superscope CRS-3504 which has an additional band for shortwave.
